Are you hiring real estate scammers in New Orleans?  You maybe if you don’t follow these 8 simple suggestions to make sure that you aren’t taken advantage by scammers who maybe working in the New Orleans area:
 
 Are you at risk for mortgage fraud?

  1. Do not give cash to anyone who poses as a Real Estate agent, only money orders (Agents do not accept cash);
  2.  Contact a reputable brokerage and ask to speak to a licensed agent, particularly if the property is on a non-real estate site;
  3. Be careful in answering ads on online sites that aren’t Real Estate brokerages;
  4. Avoid giving information about yourself through online sites that are not reputable brokerages;
  5. Select one licensed agent to represent you in the search for, or the listing of your homer or business;
  6. Always ask for a business card when meeting an agent for the first time;
  7. Ask for a copy of a lease in advance of giving any money order to an agent;
  8. Be sure to get a copy of every document you sign;

These are just a few suggestions on how to help you in avoiding possible scam artists.  The real estate market is alive and bustling.  As with any industry, there are those who are working feverishly to disconnect you, as homebuyers, lessees, even home sellers from your hard earned cash.  Be on guard at all times.  Contact your local real estate agent directly or through the New Orleans Metropolitan Association of Realtors (www.nomar.org)
